The Threefold Blessing Hidden in Affliction
Afflictions carry within them a threefold blessing that the righteous discover through patient faith. First, they make us pray. When comfort abandons us and earthly props crumble, the soul rises on wings of intercession toward Yahweh. Suffering strips away our self-sufficiency and drives us to our knees where we truly belong. The bed of sickness becomes a prayer closet; the furnace of trial becomes an altar.
Second, afflictions bring us the Lord's hearing ear. The Psalmist declares, "The righteous cry out, and Yahweh hears them" (Psalm 34:17). Our cries do not rise into empty heavens. Elohim bends His ear toward the suffering saint with exquisite attention. A father leans closest to hear his child's whispered need in the darkness.
Third, afflictions afford room for joyful experience of deliverance. Without the trial, there is no triumph. Without the storm, there is no rainbow. The soul that has tasted despair and been lifted by divine mercy knows a joy that the perpetually comfortable cannot fathom. The delivered prisoner sings louder than the never-imprisoned.
When trials come—and they shall come—remember: they are not punishment from Adonai, but rather a curriculum designed to teach you prayer, to authenticate His hearing heart, and to write upon your life a testimony of His saving power.
