The Unity of True Believers in Christ Jesus
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free.—The Christian scheme is a uniting scheme, and all real saints are one in their glorious Head.
First, believers are tragically one in evil. They spring from the same depraved original and partake of the same corrupt nature. Though sin does not reign in them, it remains; too frequently they are led captive by it and act in manner displeasing to Elohim.
Second, saints differ markedly in natural capacity, temper and disposition, and external advantages. Yet they are truly one in Christ Jesus by virtue of their union with Him, incorporated into one body and animated by one Spirit.
Third, they are equally objects of Divine love and favour. One saint may love Yahweh more than another at different seasons; but Elohim always loves all His people with the same everlasting, ardent, unalterable affection. Infinite love admits of no degrees.
Fourth, they share identical spiritual privileges. The same gospel is preached, the same Spirit poured upon them; they have one Lord, one faith, one baptism—justified by the same blood, adopted into the same family, regenerated by the same grace, preserved by the same power.
Fifth, all hold the Head, Christ Jesus. Differing in circumstantials, they are united in essentials. Inwardly determined for Elohim, they are outwardly obedient to Him. As one Father begot them, one heaven shall receive them. There they shall be one in every sense, for they shall see eye to eye.
