The Version History God Deletes
Every change you make in Google Docs is recorded. Click "Version history," and you can scroll back through every edit — every misspelled word, every deleted paragraph, every embarrassing first draft. Nothing is truly gone. The record is permanent and complete.
We often treat forgiveness the same way. We say the words "I forgive you," but we keep a detailed version history in our hearts. We can scroll back to the exact date, the exact words spoken, the precise wound inflicted. We maintain a meticulous record of wrongs — and we revisit it more often than we would like to admit.
But God's forgiveness does not work like Google Docs. When the prophet Micah describes God's mercy, he writes that the Almighty will "hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea" (Micah 7:19). The psalmist declares He removes our transgressions "as far as the east is from the west" (Psalm 103:12). Through Jeremiah, the Lord promises, "I will remember their sins no more" (Jeremiah 31:34).
God does not keep a version history of your failures. He does not maintain a record He simply chooses not to open — He deletes the record entirely. No backup. No archive. No recovery option.
The next time you are tempted to scroll through someone else's history of wrongs, remember: the God of the universe has already deleted yours.
