The Voice That Sees What You Cannot

When Google Maps launched turn-by-turn navigation in 2009, drivers reported something fascinating: they would argue with the voice. "Turn right," the GPS would say, and drivers would mutter, "That can't be right," and keep going straight — only to hit construction, a closed road, or gridlocked traffic the system had already detected from above.

The GPS could see what the driver could not. It processed data from satellites orbiting 12,550 miles overhead, synthesizing traffic reports, road closures, and real-time conditions into a single, calm instruction: "Turn right."

This is what trust looks like with God.

Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." We lean on our own understanding because we can only see the road directly in front of us. But the Almighty sees the full map — every detour, every dead end, every shortcut we would never think to take.

Here is the difference: GPS occasionally recalculates because it made an error. God never recalculates because He was wrong. He recalculates because we wandered. His guidance accounts for our detours before we even make them.

The next time God's direction feels counterintuitive — when He says turn right and everything in you wants to go straight — remember: you are trusting Someone who sees the whole journey, not just the stretch of road in front of your windshield.
