The Voyager Golden Record

In 1977, NASA launched Voyager 1 into space carrying a golden phonograph record. Carl Sagan and his team curated 115 images, greetings in 55 languages, and 90 minutes of music — all encoded on a twelve-inch gold-plated disc. The record was designed with one breathtaking purpose: to communicate who we are to anyone who might find it, even millions of years from now.

Here is what strikes me. Every choice on that record was intentional. The sound of a mother's kiss. A whale song. Chuck Berry. Beethoven. Nothing was random. Everything was selected to say something true about humanity.

Now consider this: the God who flung those stars into the cosmos — the same stars Voyager is still sailing past — designed you with even greater intentionality. The Psalmist tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made. El Shaddai, the God of more-than-enough, did not create you as an accident drifting through space. He encoded purpose into your very DNA, into the particular configuration of your gifts, your passions, your story.

Voyager 1 is now over 15 billion miles from Earth, still carrying its message. It knows exactly what it was made for.
