The Wisdom Written in Every Cell
In 2016, Japanese cell biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize for discovering how autophagy works — the process by which our cells break down their own damaged components and recycle them into something useful.
Here is what happens: when a cell accumulates broken proteins, malfunctioning organelles, or toxic waste, it does not simply discard them. Instead, it wraps them in a membrane, digests them, and transforms the wreckage into raw materials for new, healthy structures. The very stuff that was killing the cell becomes the building blocks for its renewal.
Every cell in your body is doing this right now. Trillions of microscopic redemption stories, happening every second.
This is what the Almighty does with a surrendered life. He does not simply remove our brokenness and toss it aside. He takes the grief, the addiction, the betrayal, the years we thought were wasted — and He recycles them into something the world desperately needs. The parent who struggled with anger becomes the most patient mentor in the room. The person who walked through depression becomes a lifeline for someone standing on the edge.
Paul understood this when he wrote that God "comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble" (2 Corinthians 1:4).
Nothing in God's economy is wasted. The very thing that nearly destroyed you may be the thing He uses most.
