Theology of Courage - Commentary
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
This beautiful promise from Isaiah reminds us of the transformative power of placing our trust in God. The imagery of eagles soaring high speaks to a kind of courage that transcends our earthly challenges. Eagles rise above the storms, finding strength in the very winds that might threaten to ground other creatures. Similarly, when we anchor ourselves in God’s presence, we are not merely surviving but thriving, even amid turbulence.
Think of a time when you faced uncertainty—a diagnosis, a job loss, or a fractured relationship. In those moments, it can feel as if the ground is shifting beneath our feet. Yet, scripture invites us into a relationship of hope, one where our courage is not rooted in our strength but in God's unwavering faithfulness. It is this nurturing of faith that leads to renewal.
Practical application beckons us to pause and reflect: How are we actively waiting on the Lord? Are we engaging in prayer, seeking wise counsel, and immersing ourselves in scripture? Each act of faith—small or large—invites God into our situation, granting us the strength to endure.
