True Worship Displaces Idolatry Across All Nations
The prophet's vision extends beyond temple destruction to the establishment of universal worship. Observe three marks of authentic future worship.
First, the object of true worship: "Men shall worship Him"—that is, Jehovah. Him, not it. Not the universe itself, but the Infinite Personality that created it. Idolatry persists even when heathen temples burn; only the displacement of false gods by the true God accomplishes genuine reformation.
Second, the scene of true worship: "Every one from his place." Worship transcends geography. The believer need not journey to temple, chapel, or cathedral. Yahweh receives worship from the merchant in his counting house, the laborer in his field, the mother in her home.
Third, the extent of true worship: "Even all the isles of the heathen." This glorious future encompasses not merely the covenant people but the uttermost regions—Nineveh with its 100-foot walls and 1500 towers, the great empires of Assyria, Egypt, and Rome. What seemed invincible falls to ruin. "He will stretch out His hand against the north, and destroy Assyria." Flocks graze where armies once marched. Every nation, however mighty, bows or breaks. Only worship of Jehovah Elohim endures eternally.
