Understanding Gentleness - Reflection

As we reflect on Joshua 1:9, we encounter a profound declaration from God: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Here, we see that strength and gentleness are not oppositional but intertwined. Gentleness, often perceived as weakness, is actually a powerful expression of trust in God’s eternal nature and His unwavering presence in our lives.

Imagine a father gently guiding his child across a busy street. His firm yet tender grip offers both safety and reassurance. This is akin to how God reassures Joshua, and by extension, us—His grip is firm, yet His approach is tender. The Hebrew term for “courage” (chazaq) implies not just physical strength but a steadfast heart—a heart that relies on God's promises.
