Updated Overnight
In 2012, Tesla Motors did something no automaker had ever done. They pushed a software update to every Model S on the road — overnight, while the cars sat in driveways and garages. Owners woke up to find their vehicles could do things they couldn't do the day before. New features. Better performance. Problems fixed. The body of the car looked exactly the same. Same paint, same wheels, same seats. But something fundamental had changed on the inside.
Paul described something remarkably similar when he wrote to the Corinthians: "If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here." The apostle wasn't talking about God scrapping us and starting over with different people. He was describing an internal transformation so thorough that we become capable of things we never were before — patience where there was rage, generosity where there was greed, peace where there was chaos.
Tesla owners didn't earn that update. They didn't rebuild the car themselves. They simply stayed connected, and the manufacturer did the rest.
That's how grace works. The Holy Spirit doesn't wait for us to become worthy of transformation. He asks only that we stay connected — through prayer, through Scripture, through surrender. And often the deepest changes happen in our quietest hours, when we've finally stopped trying to rebuild ourselves and let the Maker do what only He can do.
You'll look the same on the outside. But the people closest to you will notice: something has changed under the hood.
