When Courage - Contemporary Example
Last summer, a dear friend of mine named Sarah found herself facing one of the biggest challenges of her life. After years of working in a corporate job that stifled her passions, she felt a stirring in her heart—a call to start a community café that would serve as a place of warmth and connection. But as the idea grew, so did her fears. What if it failed? What if no one came?
One evening, over cups of steaming coffee, she shared her fears with me. I reminded her of the fruits of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Each fruit is a gift, but they require the courage to cultivate them in our lives. With trembling hands, she decided to take a leap of faith. She gathered a team of volunteers, and they began to transform an empty storefront into a vibrant space, infused with hope and hospitality.
On opening day, the café was filled with laughter, shared stories, and even a few tears. People from all walks of life came together, drawn by the simple yet profound desire for connection. As Sarah stood behind the counter, she felt the grace of God envelop her. She realized that courage isn't the absence of fear; it's the choice to act despite it.
Her café blossomed into a hub of community, where faith and works intertwined beautifully. In her courage, Sarah not only found her purpose but also a deeper understanding of God’s grace and guidance in her life. Every day, she witnesses the truth of Galatians—when we choose to step into our fears with faith, we open the door to a world where love and connection flourish.
