When Faith - Contemporary Example
One evening, I sat down with my granddaughter, Lily, who was diligently working on a school project about trees. As we sifted through her materials, she exclaimed, “Grandpa, look at this! Did you know that some trees can grow in places where there’s almost no water?”
Intrigued, I leaned in closer as she explained the phenomenon of the saguaro cactus. These magnificent cacti thrive in the harshest deserts, drawing strength from deep within the earth. Their roots stretch far underground, reaching out to find water sources that are hidden from sight. It struck me then how much faith resembles this enduring journey.
Just like the saguaro, our faith often requires us to dig deep during challenging times. In Galatians 5:22-23, we are reminded of the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Each fruit is cultivated through our trust in God, especially when life feels parched.
Lily then shared how some trees bend but do not break in storms, their resilience a testament to their strength. This resilience is what God calls us to embrace. When we invest in deepening our relationship with Him, we find stability and purpose, even in the hardest seasons.
