When Gentleness - Contemporary Example
Last summer, I had the privilege of visiting a local community garden. As I wandered through the rows of vibrant, flourishing plants, I noticed a young volunteer named Clara, no older than ten, tending to a fragile seedling with such tenderness that it brought a smile to my heart. She knelt beside it, her hands gently cradling the stem, as if it were the most precious treasure in the world.
Curious, I approached her and asked why she cared so much for that little plant. Clara looked up, her eyes shining with innocence and wisdom. “It’s new,” she said. “It needs love and gentleness to grow big and strong.” Her words resonated deeply with me, reminding me of Paul’s message to Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:7, where he writes, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind.”
Here, Clara embodied that spirit of love and gentleness. She knew that growth takes time, patience, and nurturing relationships—both with the plants and with those who come to work alongside her. In our faith journeys, we often need the same care. Whether it’s the budding faith of a new believer or the weary heart of a longtime member, we are called to tend to one another with gentleness. Just as Clara tended to her seedling, may we nurture those around us with love and encouragement, fostering growth in our community of faith.
