When Goodness - Story
A few months ago, I visited a local community garden, a vibrant patch of earth tended by volunteers from our neighborhood. Each person came with their own story—some seeking purpose, others searching for connection or simply a place to grow. As I wandered through rows of flourishing tomatoes and vibrant sunflowers, I noticed a young woman diligently caring for a patch of struggling seedlings. Her hands were caked in soil, and her brow glistened with perspiration.
I approached her and asked why she poured so much energy into these frail plants. With a smile, she replied, “These little ones remind me of how we grow in our faith. Just like I nurture them, God nurtures us.” She shared how she once felt lost, overwhelmed by life's challenges, but found hope in the words of 2 Timothy 1:7, which tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
As she spoke, I realized her self-effort was not just about gardening; it was about cultivating a relationship with God and community. Each seedling she nurtured symbolized a part of her own spiritual growth. She understood that goodness doesn’t just happen; it requires faith, patience, and a willingness to embrace the messiness of life.
In that garden, I saw a beautiful truth unfold: when we allow God’s goodness to flow through us, we not only grow ourselves, but we become a source of encouragement and purpose for those around us.
