When Humility - Contemporary Example
Last summer, I had the privilege of witnessing a remarkable transformation in a young woman named Sarah. Once a vibrant leader in her community, she found herself at a crossroads when her life plans unraveled. After losing her job, Sarah felt the weight of uncertainty pressing down on her. She shared with me that she often woke up in the middle of the night, her heart racing with anxiety. “I didn’t know how to trust God anymore,” she confessed.
One afternoon, as we sat together in a sun-drenched park, Sarah noticed a small, sturdy tree standing firm amidst the gusty winds. “Look at that tree,” she said, pointing. “It sways but never breaks.” I encouraged her to consider that tree as a reflection of her own journey. Just like the tree, she was called to grow deeper roots in faith, even in the midst of uncertainty.
Over the weeks that followed, Sarah began to embrace humility. She reached out for help, forming a support group with others who felt lost. Together, they shared their struggles and prayed for one another, leaning into each other’s faith. It was through this community that she learned to trust God anew, feeling His presence as the Good Shepherd who guides her through valleys of doubt.
Psalm 23 tells us, “He restores my soul.” In her vulnerability, Sarah discovered that true strength often comes from admitting our need for guidance and support. She learned that when we are humble enough to lean on others, we find the stability that God offers, leading us to the green pastures of renewed hope and spiritual growth.
