Margaret had lived alone for eleven years after her husband passed, and the church down the street had become background noise — something she drove past on her way to the grocery store. Then one Tuesday morning, a woman named Claire knocked on her door with a pot of chicken soup and no particular reason other than, "I live two blocks over, and I thought you might enjoy this."

Margaret didn't know what to do with that. She stood in her doorway holding a warm pot, watching a stranger smile and walk back down the steps.

She showed up at that church the following Sunday, sitting in the very back. She heard a passage read from Paul's letter — that nothing, not death, not the past, not eleven years of silence — could separate her from love. She wept quietly into her coat sleeve.
