When Self-control - Contemporary Example
Last summer, I found myself at a local park, watching children play. Among them was a young girl named Sarah, who loved to ride her bike. One sunny afternoon, she was determined to master a particularly tricky hill. As she approached, I saw her hesitate, a reflection of fear washing over her face. Her father, standing at the top, called out with encouragement, “You can do it, Sarah! Just keep pedaling, and I’ll be right here!”
With a deep breath, she pushed down on the pedals, her little legs working hard, trembling with uncertainty. Halfway up, she faltered, and I held my breath, worried she would give up. Yet, with a spark of determination, she steadied herself, shouted, “I can do this!” and surged forward. When she reached her father, he enveloped her in a warm embrace, celebrating her victory.
In that moment, I was reminded of 2 Timothy 1:7, which tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. Just like Sarah's journey up that hill, our paths may often feel daunting. But with each challenge we face, God offers us guidance and the strength to persevere. And when we stumble, forgiveness waits at the top, ready to catch us and lift us higher.
Friends, embrace the light of His love today. Trust in His guidance, and let it lead you on the path of spiritual growth. You’re not alone—God is cheering you on!
