When the Light Breaks Through
In The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, there is a moment near the end where Frodo is ready to quit. The Ring has grown unbearably heavy. Evil seems to be winning on every front. He looks at Sam and whispers that he cannot do this anymore.
And Sam — faithful, stubborn, ordinary Sam — gives one of the most powerful speeches in cinema. He talks about the great stories, the ones that really mattered. The people in those stories had every reason to turn back, but they held on because something good was worth fighting for. "There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo," he says, "and it's worth fighting for."
That scene resonates because every one of us has sat where Frodo sat — exhausted, overwhelmed, wondering if any of it matters. The diagnosis. The divorce. The child who will not return your calls. The grief that simply will not lift.
But Scripture tells us we serve a God who specializes in stories that are not over yet. Romans 8:28 reminds us that the Almighty is working all things together for good — even the chapters we would never have written ourselves.
Hope is not the denial of darkness. Hope is the stubborn conviction that the Author of our story is not finished writing.
Whatever you are carrying today, hold on. The story is not over.
