When Voyager Came Back to Life

In late 2023, NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft — humanity's most distant traveler — went silent. After forty-six years of faithful service, it began transmitting garbled, meaningless data back to Earth. Something inside had broken. Engineers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory spent months diagnosing the problem and finally traced it to a single faulty chip in the flight data subsystem. One small piece of corrupted memory, and the whole system lost its voice.
