Why God Reveals Truth to the Childlike Spirit
Jesus taught that Adonai hides divine mysteries from the wise and prudent, yet reveals them to babes. The child represents not ignorance, but receptivity—a spirit trusting, open to impression, and free from prejudice. Wisdom itself becomes an obstruction not in its nature, but in the pride and self-sufficiency it produces.
This reversal harmonizes with God's character as Father. A father's heart is drawn not to brilliance in his children, but to their need. The child who knows his father possesses knowledge beyond intellectual reach.
Second, such revelation glorifies Elohim as Lord of heaven and earth. The mightier we conceive God to be, the more we need proof of His lowliness. How near He comes; how dear He is through His constant relationship with the poor and lowly.
Third, God manifests the supremacy of the moral element over mere intellect. Understanding has narrow horizons; the spirit embraces eternity and God. Intellect is the plant's fiber; righteousness is the sap producing flower and fruit. What ingenuity could replace honesty and faithfulness in human homes?
Finally, this method reveals God's desire to reach as many as possible. Had revelation come only to the learned, what a select coterie! But the laboring masses—unable to develop great intellectual power—find hope when Yahweh reveals to babes. All may become childlike, though few become learned. God desires man himself, not his accomplishments.
