Wisdom's Feast versus Folly's Deadly Poison
Her guests are in the depths of hell.—Whose guests shall we be? It is through blindness and inconsonsideration that any man becomes entangled in the snares of the foolish woman. We are naturally starving creatures, unable to find happiness within ourselves. As every man must have food to satisfy the natural cravings of hunger, so every soul must have gratification for the desires of happiness. Wisdom and Folly each spread a table for men. The question is: Whose guests shall we be?
The entertainments of Wisdom are soul-quickening provision. They that hear her calls shall eat that which is good, and their souls shall live forever. The guests of Wisdom feast in the heights of heaven upon the hidden manna and the fruits of the tree of life. By contrast, the provisions of the foolish woman are a deadly, though perhaps slow, poison. Her guests have their portion with the wicked giants who brought universal deluge upon the world, and with the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah, who suffer the vengeance of eternal fire.
Consider Joseph, who so bravely resisted the most alluring and threatening temptations, and the blessings that crowned his head. Then remember Sodom and Gomorrah. The choice of which table we approach determines not merely our earthly satisfaction, but our eternal destination.
