A Story of Gentleness - Story
There’s a story I want to share about a young man named Jamal, who grew up in a neighborhood marked by struggles and strife. One day, as he was walking home from work, he noticed an elderly woman trying to fix a flat tire on her car. You could see the exhaustion and frustration on her face; she was struggling, visibly shaken by the weight of her situation.
Now, Jamal, a big guy with muscles rippling under his shirt, could have easily rushed past her without a second thought. But something stirred in his heart. He approached her with a gentle smile, kneeling beside her. “Ma’am, can I help you with that?” he asked, showing strength not just in his muscles, but in his spirit. With every turn of the wrench, he spoke words of comfort, reminding her that she wasn’t alone in her crisis.
Just as Jesus promised in Matthew 28:19-20, “I am with you always, to the end of the age,” Jamal embodied that very promise. His gentleness brought healing to that woman’s heart.
What struck me most was not just the act of service, but how love—expressed through gentleness—holds the power to lift burdens. In that moment, Jamal didn’t just fix a tire; he restored hope. And isn’t that what we are called to do for one another? To be a community that supports, guides, and loves, reminding each other that in our crises, we are never truly alone.
