A Story of Understanding - Story
There’s a story I want to share about a small community garden in a bustling town. Every spring, a group of neighbors would gather, each bringing their seeds and hopes for a bountiful harvest. Among them was an elderly woman named Ruth, known for her quiet demeanor but unwavering faith. Each year, she would plant a row of sunflowers, towering and bright, but her true treasure lay beneath the soil.
One afternoon, after a stormy night had ravaged the garden, the neighbors rushed over, disheartened by the sight of broken stems and scattered seeds. As they mourned their loss, Ruth knelt by her row of sunflowers, digging gently in the mud. “What are you doing?” they asked, puzzled by her calm amidst the chaos.
“I’m looking for my potatoes,” she replied, her eyes sparkling with hope. While the sunflowers were above ground, it was her potatoes—hidden and unseen—that would bring sustenance. Ruth explained, “Faith is like these potatoes. We don’t always see the growth, but it happens beneath the surface. Our perseverance through storms strengthens us for the harvest to come.”
This reminds us of Hebrews 11:1, where faith is defined as the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Just as Ruth trusted in what her eyes could not see, we too are invited to grow in faith, embracing the unseen work God is doing in our lives. So, when the storms come, may we dig deeper in faith, knowing that true growth often lies beneath the surface, waiting to bear fruit in a future harvest of purpose and strength.
