Biblical Truth: Humility - Commentary
As we reflect on Matthew 28:19-20, we find ourselves standing before the awe-inspiring commission of Jesus: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” This great commandment, often referred to as the Great Commission, invites us into a sacred mystery—one that unfolds through our humble acknowledgment of our limitations and our dependence on the Holy Spirit.
Humility is not merely a posture; it is a transformative journey—an invitation to recognize that we are part of a divine narrative larger than ourselves. When we approach the task of making disciples, we do so not from a place of earthly wisdom, but with the understanding that true guidance comes from above. We need to let go of the illusion that we are the architects of transformation. Instead, we must become vessels of God’s grace, allowing His Spirit to work through us.
In our humility, we discover wisdom. The act of going forth is enriched when we embrace our fragility and surrender our need for control. Each time we step out in faith—perhaps to mentor a younger believer or to share our testimony—we participate in a sacred dance of transformation, where God’s power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Let us take a moment to reflect on how we can embody this humility in our daily lives. Are there relationships where we can serve more selflessly? Are there opportunities for discipleship that we’ve hesitated to embrace? In these questions, we find the echo of Christ's call—a beautiful reminder that our journey of spiritual growth is intertwined with our willingness to bow low, trusting that God will lead us into the fullness of His purpose.
