Evening Prayer: Gossip
Dear Heavenly Father,
As I pause in this sacred moment, I invite you to illuminate the shadowed corners of my heart where gossip sometimes lurks. I think about the words I speak each day—those light, casual comments that can morph into heavy burdens for others. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.” Lord, how often do I forget that each word I whisper can either break down or build up?
Picture this: a community gathering, laughter and conversation swirling in the air like confetti. Yet, amid the joy, I see a friend standing quietly, her spirit weighed down by whispers that have drifted her way. In that moment, I am challenged to be a voice of grace, a vessel of your love. Help me to confront the urge to join in those light-hearted jabs and instead be a beacon of encouragement. How might I lift her up instead of contributing to her burden?
Let your Spirit guide my words to shine brightly, bringing hope and healing where gossip might want to take root. May my heart overflow with the hesed—the lovingkindness—that you have lavished upon me, drawing others closer to you through my actions.
