Evening Prayer: Sloth
Dear Heavenly Father,
As I pause in Your presence this evening, I find myself reflecting on the quiet temptation of sloth that sometimes settles like dust on my spirit. It’s not merely a lack of action; it’s a gradual dimming of that fervent flame of purpose You ignited within me. In Matthew 28:19-20, You command us to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations,” a clarion call that reverberates through the ages, urging us to be agents of Your love and grace.
Help me, Lord, to see the areas of my life where I’ve allowed distractions to steal my energy and enthusiasm. When I scroll through social media instead of reaching out to a neighbor in need, or when I choose comfort over courage, remind me that each moment is a divine invitation to bring light into the darkness.
Let my actions today reflect Your character, full of commitment and compassion. May I carry the hope of the Gospel into the mundane moments of my daily routine. When I feel the weight of sloth, may I remember that my purpose is not just for my own growth, but to transform the world around me, just as You transformed lives during Your time on earth.
