Lessons from Compassion - Quote
As I sat with a dear friend last week, we reminisced about the struggles we faced during our early years in ministry. She shared how, one particularly challenging season, she felt overwhelmed by the weight of expectations. It was during this time that she turned to a simple prayer she learned from Mary, the mother of Jesus: “Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). In those words, she found a profound connection to the heart of God — a call to trust amidst uncertainty.
Her faith didn’t remove the challenges, but it transformed her perspective. She began to extend compassion to others, recognizing that everyone carries their burdens. One day, she met a struggling single mother at the local food pantry. Instead of offering just resources, she spent time listening, praying, and sharing her own journey. That conversation blossomed into a supportive friendship, reminding each of them that they were not alone.
This is what agape love — unconditional love — looks like in action. When we embody the fruits of the Spirit, as Paul describes in Galatians 5:22-23, we become vessels of hope and guidance. Just as Mary exemplified faith in the face of daunting circumstances, we, too, are called to respond to others with compassion, shaping a community rooted in love and trust.
In those moments of reaching out, we find not just ourselves but also the Kingdom of God manifesting in our lives. Compassion leads us on a journey of spiritual growth, reminding us that we are all in this together, growing in faith hand in hand.
