Lessons from Kindness - Biblical Analogy
One chilly December morning, as Mary was preparing for Christmas, she noticed an elderly neighbor struggling to shovel snow from his driveway. The sight tugged at her heart. She had been busy wrestling with her own worries — the pressures of work, the weight of family expectations, and the ever-looming question of what the future held. Yet, in that moment, something transformed within her. She remembered the words from Romans 12:2 about being transformed by the renewing of our minds.
With a cup of steaming cocoa in one hand and a bright scarf wrapped around her neck, Mary ventured outside. “Let me help you with that!” she called out. As they worked side by side, the conversation flowed, and with every shovel-full of snow removed, a heavy burden lifted from her soul. Her neighbor shared stories from his childhood, laughter mingling with the crisp winter air, and suddenly, Mary felt her worries recede.
Through an act of kindness, both their hearts were renewed. Mary realized that transformation often begins not within ourselves, but through our response to others. It’s in these moments of shared humanity that God’s hesed — His steadfast love and kindness — becomes tangible. Just as Mary sowed seeds of kindness, she discovered the joy of community and the guidance of the Holy Spirit leading her to a deeper faith. Sometimes, it’s in the simple act of stretching out a hand that we find we’re being shaped into the image of Christ.
