Lessons from Kindness - Contemporary Example
A few months back, I had the joy of visiting a community garden in our town. It was a small patch of land, but it pulsed with life, color, and the laughter of families tending to their plots. As I wandered through, I noticed a young boy, no more than six, earnestly digging in the soil. His hands were caked in dirt, but his face glowed with determination. He was planting seeds that, in time, would sprout into vegetables to feed his family.
Later, I spoke with his grandmother, who shared how each week they’d bring home a small harvest. But more than that, she explained how the boy was learning about patience, responsibility, and the joy of nurturing life. “You see,” she said, “every time he waters those seeds, he’s learning that kindness doesn’t just grow plants; it grows character.”
As I reflected on this, I couldn’t help but connect it to John 14:6, where Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Just as the boy tends to his garden with care, we, too, are called to nurture our spiritual lives with kindness—toward ourselves and others. Kindness is the water that helps our faith grow, fostering a fertile ground for love and hope to flourish.
In our moments of doubt or struggle, let’s remember that every act of kindness—no matter how small—can lead to a bountiful harvest of joy and spiritual growth. Let this be our encouragement: planting seeds of kindness not only transforms others but deepens our own journey with Christ.
