Lessons from Understanding - Story
Sister Mary had a garden that seemed to defy the very laws of nature. In the heart of a bustling city, where concrete ruled and the noise of life drowned out the whispers of creation, she cultivated a patch of earth that was nothing short of miraculous. Each Saturday, the children from the neighborhood would gather around her, their eyes wide with wonder as she tended her flowers.
One day, a young boy named Jamal, with a heart filled with questions, asked, "Sister Mary, how do you make these flowers grow so beautifully?" With a smile, she knelt beside him and replied, "It’s all about the soil, baby. You see, I start with good dirt, but I also have to trust the process. I water them, pull the weeds, and be patient. Sometimes, it takes a long time before you see the first bloom."
That week, Sister Mary shared Romans 12:2 with her little garden crew: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." She explained that just like her flowers, we must trust God to transform us. It’s not always easy. Sometimes we feel stuck in the dark, but if we let Him work in us, the beauty will eventually shine through.
Jamal looked at her, and in that moment, he understood that faith was much like gardening. It requires patience, trust, and a willingness to be transformed. As he watched the flowers bloom, his heart filled with hope, knowing that he too was growing, nurtured by the love of God.
