Lessons from Wisdom - Contemporary Example
A few months ago, I visited a local community center where a wise mentor named Mr. Solomon runs a woodworking class. He’s a master craftsman, but more importantly, he’s a man of faith. On my first visit, I watched as he guided a group of eager learners, each struggling to shape rough pieces of wood into something beautiful.
One young man, Jake, was particularly frustrated. He had poured hours into his project, but no matter how hard he tried, it never seemed to measure up. As he pounded away, the sweat on his brow told the story of his self-effort and determination. Yet, all he saw was a lopsided chair that felt like a failure.
Mr. Solomon stepped in, his voice gentle yet firm. “Jake, sometimes the best thing we can do is step back and listen.” He handed Jake a different tool and said, “Trust the process. Let the wood speak to you.”
In that moment, Jake took a deep breath, releasing his grip on the project. He began to follow Mr. Solomon’s guidance, and with each careful cut, the chair transformed.
