Light From Within

In 1962, Japanese scientist Osamu Shimomura stood on the docks of Friday Harbor, Washington, carefully collecting crystal jellyfish from the cold Pacific waters. What fascinated him wasn't the creature itself but the soft green glow it produced. After painstaking work, Shimomura isolated what became known as Green Fluorescent Protein — a molecule that generates light not by reflecting it from some outside source, but through a chemical reaction within the creature's own body. The light isn't borrowed. It's inherent. That discovery would eventually earn Shimomura the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

It also carries a quiet sermon.

So much of our world tells us that identity is something we must acquire — the right credentials, the right appearance, the right accomplishments. We scramble to reflect enough borrowed light to feel seen. But scripture tells a different story. Paul wrote that God, "who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made His light shine in our hearts" (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Your identity as a beloved child of the Most High isn't a coat of paint applied from the outside. It isn't borrowed glory. It was placed within you by the Creator Himself, woven into the fabric of your redeemed nature.

You don't have to perform your way into significance. Like that crystal jellyfish glowing in the dark Pacific waters, the light God placed in you shines from the inside out.
