Marked in Every Cell

In 1958, French immunologist Jean Dausset made a discovery that would earn him the Nobel Prize. He identified what scientists now call the Human Leukocyte Antigen system — a set of proteins found on the surface of nearly every nucleated cell in your body. These molecular markers are unique to you. They are your biological signature, the way your immune system knows which cells belong and which do not. Every cell in your body carries this inscription: this one is mine.

When a surgeon transplants an organ from one person to another, the greatest danger is not the surgery itself — it is rejection. The recipient's immune system reads those foreign markers and attacks, because the cells do not carry the right identity. The organ may be healthy, perfectly functional, but if it does not bear the mark of belonging, the body treats it as an invader.

Scripture tells us something remarkably similar about spiritual identity. Paul writes to the Ephesians that believers are "marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit" (Ephesians 1:13). Just as every cell in your body carries a molecular signature that declares whose you are, the Spirit of God places an identity upon you that cannot be stripped away by circumstance, failure, or doubt.

You are not an imposter in the Kingdom of God. You bear the mark of belonging. The Father looks at you and His Spirit confirms: this one is Mine.
