More Than a Highlight Reel
In February 2012, Jeremy Lin was sleeping on his teammate's couch in New York City. The Harvard graduate had gone undrafted and been cut by two NBA teams. The Knicks were days from releasing him when injuries forced the coaching staff to give him a chance. What followed stunned the basketball world — Lin poured in 25 points against the New Jersey Nets, then kept going, leading a remarkable winning streak that became known as Linsanity.
But here is what most people never heard. When the streak faded and Lin spent years bouncing between rosters, he spoke with striking honesty about the crisis beneath the glory. He described how he had to learn — painfully — that his identity could not rest on basketball. It had to rest in Christ.
Lin discovered what every believer eventually confronts. The world hands you an identity based on your last performance. You are only as good as your latest stat line, your most recent win, your current title. But the God who formed you in your mother's womb does not consult the scoreboard.
Paul wrote, "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." He had every credential — Pharisee, scholar, Roman citizen — and counted them all as loss compared to knowing Jesus.
Your identity was never meant to rest on what you do. It rests on whose you are. And the One who claims you is not checking the highlights.
