The Digital Discipleship Challenge
Imagine a small fishing boat, its paint peeling and worn by the salt and spray of the sea, battling the furious waves of a stormy ocean. The sky is a tapestry of dark clouds, and flashes of lightning illuminate the tumultuous waters, each crash of thunder a reminder of the chaos swirling around. The captain, gripping the helm with knotted hands, squints through the deluge, searching for a glimmer of hope amid the tempest. He recalls the old sailors’ tales of navigating by the stars—guidance that seems distant and unreachable in this moment of turmoil.
In our fast-paced, digitally driven world, we find ourselves in a similar storm. Each notification ping and social media scroll crashes against our peace, threatening to drown out the still, small voice of God. The incessant distractions, the noise of misinformation, and the pressures to conform can leave us feeling adrift, much like that captain struggling against the storm. Yet, just as he steadies himself, trusting the stars to guide his way, we too can anchor our souls in the truth of Scripture.
Ephesians 4:29 offers us a lifeline: “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up.” In these turbulent times, our words can serve as beacons of hope, illuminating the path for ourselves and others. Like the captain who relies on the stars, we can choose to reflect grace in our conversations, using the digital platforms at our disposal not to tear down, but to uplift and encourage. Let us navigate this storm together, trusting that God is our steadfast captain, guiding us through the waves with His unwavering light.
