The Empty Chair

A young pastor visited an elderly man who was dying. Next to the man's bed was an empty chair. 'I see you were expecting someone,' the pastor said. 'No,' the man replied, 'that chair is for Jesus. Years ago, a friend told me that prayer was simply talking to Jesus as if He were sitting in a chair next to me. It's been the most real relationship of my life.' The next day, the man's daughter called to say he had died peacefully. She found him with his hand stretched out toward the empty chair.
