The Example of Joy - Story

In a small, sunlit garden, an elderly woman named Margaret tended to her roses with great care. Each morning, she would kneel beside them, whispering words of encouragement as if they were her dearest friends. Margaret had been a gardener for decades, but this particular season was different. Just months before, she had lost her beloved husband, and the weight of grief hung heavy upon her heart.

One day, as she pruned a particularly stubborn branch, a neighbor, a young mother named Julia, approached with her daughter, Mia. “Margaret, how do you keep smiling?” Julia asked, her voice tinged with disbelief. “You’ve faced so much.”

Margaret paused, her hands resting on the earth. “Joy isn’t the absence of sorrow, dear. It’s a choice. It’s rooted in faith. Just like these roses, I nurture it even when it feels like winter inside my soul.” She pointed to a bud just beginning to unfurl. “Look here! That’s hope breaking through.”
