The Face That Never Fools Him

When Apple introduced Face ID in 2017, engineers built something remarkable into the iPhone X. A tiny projector casts more than 30,000 invisible infrared dots onto your face, mapping its unique geometry with mathematical precision. What makes the technology extraordinary is what happens next — it keeps recognizing you. Grow a beard. Put on sunglasses. Change your hairstyle. Gain weight. Age ten years. The system adapts because it knows the deeper architecture of your face, not just the surface appearance.

We spend enormous energy curating the surface. We adjust ourselves for every room we walk into — one version for the office, another for church, another for social media. Some mornings we barely recognize ourselves. We wonder which version is the real one.

But the God who formed you in the womb operates with something far more penetrating than infrared light. The Psalmist wrote, "You knit me together in my mother's womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:13-14). The Almighty mapped every dimension of who you are before you drew your first breath. He does not lose track of you beneath the beard you have grown to look older, or the confidence you perform to feel braver.

No reinvention confuses Him. No mask fools Him. And here is the grace — what He sees when every layer is stripped away, He calls beloved.

You do not need to find your identity. Your Creator never lost it.
