The Face That Unlocks Everything
When Apple introduced Face ID with the iPhone X in 2017, it changed how we think about security. The TrueDepth camera projects more than thirty thousand invisible infrared dots onto your face, creating a precise mathematical map of your features. What makes it remarkable is that it still recognizes you — with new glasses, a different haircut, even as your face changes with age. The system adapts, but the core identity it locked onto never wavers.
There are mornings when we barely recognize ourselves. Grief reshapes us. Failure makes us feel like strangers in our own skin. We look in the mirror and wonder if the person staring back is really who God made us to be.
But Scripture tells us that the One who formed us in the womb has mapped every feature of our souls with far greater precision than any technology. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you," God tells Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:5). The Hebrew word for "knew" — yada — means intimate, complete knowledge. God doesn't scan the surface. He reads the depth of who we are.
Face ID can be fooled by an identical twin. But the Almighty never confuses you with anyone else. Your identity in Him isn't based on what you've done or how you feel on a given Tuesday. It's based on His unchanging knowledge of exactly who He created you to be.
No matter how unrecognizable life has made you feel, the God who mapped your soul still knows your face.
