The Long Walk Back to Augusta

On April 14, 2019, Tiger Woods stood on the 18th green at Augusta National and did something no one thought possible. He won the Masters — his fifteenth major championship — eleven years after his last major victory. Between those two wins lay a wilderness: four back surgeries, a spinal fusion that left him wondering if he would ever walk without pain again, a public unraveling of his personal life, and a world ranking that had plummeted to 1,199th. Doctors told him to consider a life without competitive golf. Many wrote his story's final chapter for him.

But the God who restores does not consult our obituaries.

When Woods slipped on the green jacket that Sunday evening, he embraced his children behind the 18th green — the same spot where his father Earl had embraced him after his first Masters win in 1997. What was broken had come full circle.

Scripture tells us that the Lord "restores my soul" — not halfway, not reluctantly, but along paths of righteousness that wind through valleys we never would have chosen. The prophet Joel promises that God will "restore the years that the swarming locust has eaten." Not replace them with something else. Restore them.

Whatever wilderness you are walking through today — broken health, broken trust, broken dreams — the Almighty is not finished writing your story. Restoration is not returning to who you were. It is becoming who He always intended you to be.
