The Love That Reads Through Damage
In 1994, Japanese engineer Masahiro Hara faced a problem. Barcodes on automotive parts kept getting smeared with grease and grime on the factory floor, rendering them unreadable. His solution was the QR code — and he built something remarkable into its design: error correction. A QR code can lose up to thirty percent of its surface to scuffs, stains, or torn corners, and it still scans perfectly. The message gets through despite the damage.
That is a portrait of how God loves us.
We come to Him smudged. Grief has torn our corners. Shame has scratched across our surface. We look at ourselves and think, "There is nothing left here worth reading." But the Almighty built His love with enough grace to read through the damage. Paul understood this when he wrote, "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Not after we cleaned ourselves up. Not once we became scannable. While we were still marred.
Hara did not design a code that demanded perfect conditions. He designed one that expected damage and accounted for it from the beginning. Before the first smudge ever landed, the correction was already written in.
So it is with the love of God. Before you ever stumbled, His grace was already encoded into the story. You were never too damaged to be read by the One who wrote you.
