The Prince of Egypt: When You Believe (Hebrews 11:1)
As the sun dipped low on the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and crimson, the air was thick with the cries of despair and hope. Picture the Israelites, weary and trembling, standing at the edge of the Red Sea, a vast and turbulent expanse before them. Behind them, the thunder of chariots echoed like the growl of a predator closing in. Fear gripped their hearts as they found themselves trapped between the relentless advance of Pharaoh's army and the seemingly insurmountable waters.
In that moment of desperation, Moses, a man marked not just by his failures but by the whispers of God, raised his staff—a symbol of divine authority—and faced the sea. The air crackled with tension as the Israelites held their breath, caught between doubt and faith. They had heard the promise: deliverance was near, but all they felt was the weight of uncertainty. It was not proof they had, but a promise; not sight, but a flicker of hope.
Then came the moment when Moses, with a heart full of trust, stepped into that water. Can you hear the splash? It was a small act, yet it stirred the very foundations of the world. In that single step, faith ignited the miraculous. The ocean began to part, revealing a path of dry ground, and the Israelites erupted in song, their voices intertwining with the sound of the wind.
Hebrews teaches us that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Friends, faith is not about having all the answers or clear paths laid out before us; it’s about trusting God's character when the waters seem too deep and the chariots too close. Like Moses, we often must take that first step into uncertainty, believing that God will meet us there. When you believe, something miraculous happens; the sea parts, and we find our way to freedom.
