The Signal That Says "I'm Still Here

In computer networking, engineers solved a quiet but critical problem. When two machines are connected over the internet, how does one know the other hasn't silently disappeared? The answer is something called a keep-alive packet — a tiny signal sent at regular intervals that carries no data, delivers no instructions, transfers no files. Its only message is this: I'm still here.

Without keep-alive signals, connections silently die. The two machines drift apart without either one knowing the link has broken. But that small, steady pulse — meaningless by any metric of productivity — is what holds the whole relationship together.

Love works the same way.

We often think love must be grand — dramatic gestures, eloquent speeches, costly sacrifices. And sometimes it is. But more often, love is the keep-alive signal. It's the text that says, "Thinking of you." The hand on a shoulder that communicates nothing except presence. The phone call with no agenda. The prayer whispered for someone who will never know you prayed.

Paul tells us that love "always perseveres" (1 Corinthians 13:7). Not always with fireworks, but with faithfulness. Not always with eloquence, but with endurance.

God Himself is the ultimate keep-alive signal. Through every silence, every season of doubt, every dark night of the soul, the Holy Spirit pulses within us with one steady message: I'm still here.

Your love doesn't have to be spectacular. It just has to keep showing up.
