The Strength of Mended Bone
In 1892, German anatomist Julius Wolff published a discovery that still shapes orthopedic medicine today. He observed that when a bone fractures and heals, the body does not simply patch the break. It reinforces it. The callus of new bone tissue that forms at the fracture site is denser and harder than the original bone. The body floods the damaged area with extra resources, building it back with greater strength, as though determined that this place will not break again.
Wolff's Law, as it came to be known, reveals something written into our very design. The Almighty did not create bodies that merely survive damage. He created bodies that emerge from damage fortified.
The prophet Joel spoke of a God who promises to "restore the years that the swarming locust has eaten." This is not a God who hands back a fragile copy of what was lost. This is a God who rebuilds with abundance, who turns devastation into a harvest that outweighs what came before.
Perhaps you carry a fracture today — a broken relationship, a collapsed dream, a faith that buckled under grief. The Great Physician does not aim to return you to where you were. He is making something in you that will bear more weight than it ever could before.
The broken place is becoming the strongest place. Let Him finish the work.
