What Even Twins Cannot Share

In the 1890s, Sir Francis Galton conducted one of the most exhaustive studies of human fingerprints ever attempted. After analyzing thousands of prints, he calculated that the odds of two individuals sharing identical fingerprints were about one in sixty-four billion. But the most remarkable finding came later: even identical twins — who share one hundred percent of their DNA — have completely different fingerprints.

Your fingerprints form between weeks ten and sixteen in the womb. The exact pressure of tiny fingers against the uterine wall, the precise density of amniotic fluid, the minute movements no one can predict or repeat — all of these forces etch ridges into your skin that belong to you alone. Your genetic code does not determine them. No algorithm can replicate them. They are yours, written before you ever drew breath.

We live in a world that tries to sort us into categories — by our resumes, our diagnoses, our failures, our family names. But the God who formed you in the womb, who the psalmist says "knit me together" (Psalm 139:13), was not mass-producing. El Roi, the God Who Sees, was crafting something singular.
