When Faith - Story
When Sarah found herself in the tent, the warmth of the sun filtered through the fabric, casting soft shadows on the ground. She had heard the laughter of the children playing nearby, a reminder of life and joy. Yet, her heart was heavy with the weight of unfulfilled promises. At ninety years old, she felt the impossibility of becoming a mother—a longing that had flickered like a distant star, now dimmed by years of waiting.
One evening, as she kneaded dough for the evening meal, the unexpected arrival of three strangers turned her world upside down. Their words pierced through her doubt: “I will surely return to you next year, and your wife Sarah will have a son” (Genesis 18:10). The promise seemed ludicrous, and Sarah couldn’t help but laugh—an expression of disbelief mingled with yearning.
Yet, in that moment, amidst her disbelief and self-effort to navigate life without God's guidance, she was invited into a deeper relationship of trust. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Sarah's life became a testament to this faith—not one built on her efforts but on God’s unwavering promise and provision.
As another year passed, the laughter of disbelief transformed into the laughter of joy when Isaac was born. Sarah’s journey teaches us that faith is often birthed in the tension of waiting and doubt, reminding us that God’s promises are not bound by our limitations. When we lean into that relationship with trust, we open ourselves to the awe of what He can accomplish in our lives.
