When Gentleness - Contemporary Example
One afternoon, I found myself in our church’s community garden, a humble plot tended by our congregation. It was a warm day, and the sun bathed the vibrant vegetables in golden light. As I knelt to pull weeds, I noticed a little girl, Lily, carefully watering the delicate seedlings. With each drop, she whispered to them, “Grow strong. You’re loved.” I couldn’t help but smile at her gentle approach.
Later, I asked her why she spoke to the plants. She looked at me, her eyes shining with innocence and wisdom. “Because they need to know they’re not alone. We’re all growing together, right?”
In that moment, the Lord reminded me of His call in Matthew 28:19-20— to go and make disciples, to nurture one another in our faith, just as Lily nurtured those fragile seedlings. Her gentleness was a powerful metaphor for our spiritual growth. It showed me that growth often comes not through force, but through love and care.
In our communities, we are called to be like Lily, serving one another with gentleness, guiding each other along the path of faith. When we offer our time, our kindness, and our attention, we create a safe space for growth. Just as those plants thrive under her gentle touch, we flourish in environments where love reigns. May we embrace the joy of serving each other in gentleness, nurturing each soul towards the fullness of Christ’s love.
