When Gentleness - Story
A few years ago, I visited a small community garden where neighbors came together to cultivate not just vegetables, but relationships. One evening, as the sun dipped low and cast a golden hue over the patchwork of green, I noticed an elderly woman named Ruth. She was kneeling beside a struggling tomato plant, gently cradling its fragile stem. With careful hands, she staked it upright, providing the support it desperately needed.
As I approached, Ruth looked up, her eyes twinkling with wisdom. "You see," she said, "this plant is like us in our spiritual journeys. Sometimes, we need a little gentleness, a little guidance, to grow strong." She continued to nurture that plant, speaking to it softly as if it could hear her. It struck me that her gentleness was not just an act of gardening; it was an expression of her faith.
Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples, to guide one another in our walk with Him. Ruth exemplified this servanthood, tending to the needs of her garden and her neighbors with patience and love. In a world that often feels harsh and unyielding, her gentle spirit offered hope and comfort.
We, too, are called to be gentle guides for one another, reaching out with the same care Ruth showed. In our own lives, may we find the strength to support those who are struggling, nurturing their growth with gentleness, reminding them that they are never alone in their journey.
