When Joy - Story

A few years ago, I met a young woman named Sarah at a community center where I volunteered. She came in every week, her face a portrait of weariness. Life had thrown her some harsh realities—she had lost her job, her relationship had ended, and she felt like hope was just out of reach. One day, she sat down across from me, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I don’t know how to keep going,” she admitted.

As we talked, I shared John 14:6, the words of Jesus declaring, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” I encouraged her to consider that in her seemingly endless struggle, there was a way forward—through faith. I handed her a small journal and suggested she write down moments of gratitude each day, no matter how small.

Weeks passed, and each time I saw Sarah, I noticed a subtle shift. She began to discover joy in simple things: the warmth of the sun on her face, the laughter of children playing outside, the taste of her favorite coffee. One day, she burst in, her eyes bright. “I’ve found a job!” she exclaimed, but more importantly, she shared how she felt a sense of purpose returning to her life.

Sarah’s transformation wasn’t just about employment; it was about finding shalom (peace) in the midst of chaos. Her story became a testament to the truth that faith ignites hope, leading us to a life filled with joy, even when the road ahead seems uncertain. In her journey, we see that trusting in Jesus truly guides us through our darkest valleys into the light of His joy.
