When the Lion Remembers
In The Lion King, there is a moment that still catches in the throat. Simba has been running for years — hiding in the jungle, eating bugs, laughing too loud, trying to forget who he is. He has built an entire life around avoiding the truth. Then Rafiki leads him to a pool of still water, and in the reflection, Simba sees not just his own face but the face of his father. Mufasa's voice breaks through the clouds: "Remember who you are."
That scene resonates because it mirrors something deeply biblical. So many of us are living in exile from our true identity. We have listened to the voice of shame — the Scar in our story — telling us we are not enough, that we caused the damage, that we should stay hidden. We fill our days with distractions and settle for a smaller life than the one we were made for.
But the God who formed you will not leave you in the wilderness. Through Scripture, through worship, through the quiet nudge of the Holy Spirit, the Father keeps calling: "You are Mine. Remember who you are."
First Peter 2:9 declares that you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood. That is not a title you earn. It is an identity you were given before you wandered, and it is waiting for you when you look into the still water of God's Word.
The question is not whether the Father is speaking. The question is whether you will stop running long enough to listen.
